About

I have been interested in birds and birdwatching since I was a child. This took root largely while spending summers with my Grandparents at their small dairy farm in north central Wisconsin, back in the ‘70’s and 80’s.

They had an appreciation for and interest in the natural world, a trait shared by many in our family. I remember the local paper there carried a syndicated column, called ‘Wisconsin Woodsmoke’, by a guy named Ced Vig. We would look forward to reading the informative naturalist content of this column each week. We had the field guide ‘Birds of North America’ up there—I would page through this endlessly, then go out with binoculars and see what I could see.

About 4 years ago, I bought a camera and lens to photograph birds and have been pursuing this hobby since then. In part I turned to this hobby when my guitar playing, another great passion of mine, had become adversely affected by what is called Focal Dystonia. It has been restorative and sanity-maintaining, to pursue this new creative endeavor, go walk in the woods, listen and watch.

I hope you enjoy the images I’ve captured, it has been and continues to be a fun adventure.
